HVAC And Utility Systems Technician
Installs, maintains and operates the HVAC and utility systems of the medical center to assure optimal safety and compliance with medical center and regulation standards. Performs at the very highest skilled craftsman levels responsible for the most complex systems. Responds to emergencies 24 hours/day as available. Work is both indoor and outdoor. Some areas are hot and noisy. Inclement weather can be a factor.
Frequently encounter hazards associated with electrical repairs, exposures to hazardous materials and hot working conditions. Requires using caution while handling chemicals. Requires flexible work schedule, weekend and on-call work. Ability to conceptualize complex electrical, electronic, mechanical, and HVAC systems from installation to maintenance and repairs. Responsible for solving the most difficult system problems. Occasional extremely heavy work. Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and make independent decisions.
Must direct the work of skilled craftsmen. Wide use of complex tool and equipment requiring highly skilled craftsmen. Primary accountability for continuation of HVAC and utility systems.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Licensure:
Boiler Certifications, Water Treatment Certifications and UST Certification
Experience:
Requires 1 to 2 years of direct work related experience required to include boilers, HVAC and refrigeration equipment, generators, steam system components, hydronics, electronics, electrical systems, pneumatic and hydraulic experience.
Skills:
Must be able to work with highly complex electrical electronics, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems. Requires the ability to work from blueprints. Must possess the ability to work with schematics and troubleshoot systems. Must be familiar with use and operation of complex testing equipment, tools, torches, and welding equipment. Must be able to work under emergency conditions. Working and rebuilding pumps and valves.
Computer skills are required. Interfaces with outside contractors with responsibility for timely and accurate completion of projects. Describe activities performed daily and account for them in the current timekeeping system.
Requires mental and physical dexterity. Involves standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting.
