Scope

of Work

The Family Liaison is responsible for building partnerships with families that break down barriers of communication, understanding, and navigating schools, and building families and school capacities.

Reports to the School Principal for daily supervision and directions, and the Office of FSCP for support, training and resources.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Recognize barriers that prevent families' full engagement in schools by providing resources, interpretation, and other related services.
  • Address families’ questions and concerns to appropriate school staff for the purpose of supporting students' school experience.
  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication between families and schools.
  • Contact parents through phone calls, home visits, and/or meetings to encourage their child's attendance in school.
  • Maintain documentation of activities, LEAP and student logs, and prepare reports as required.
  • Develop an individual work plan, with quantifiable deliverables, that detail the Liaison role in the implementation of the schools’ goals and family/student engagement plan.
  • Be part of the school's chronic absenteeism team and host conversations to remove barriers of chronic absenteeism including home visits, use of Parent Square, school health services, and community resources.
  • Work with other district liaisons to design and implement Family University—a year-long offering of educational opportunities for families.
  • Organize and support family nights, conferences, and other school-based events.
  • Coordinate family resource nights with the Office of Family, School, and Community Partnerships and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as required that are directed at supporting students' attendance in school.
Qualifications and Abilities
  • Fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
  • Has good communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the district’s school‑family partnerships policy and regulation documents.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development and learning strategies to foster educational growth.
  • Understand class and cultural backgrounds for families and the community and respect ethnic, cultural, and language diversity.
  • Ability to employ tact, diplomacy, and sound judgement in dealing with sensitive issues and challenging situations.
  • Know Danbury’s rich resources and understand families' cultural backgrounds.
  • Candidate must be well‑organized, flexible, and a self‑starter to maintain timelines and responsibilities.
  • Participate in required professional development and activities to enhance skills.
  • Possesses computer skills in Word, Excel, Zoom, Power School, Parent Square, and other related databases.
  • 2 years of experience working with families and communities in different capacities.
  • 12 college credits in Early Childhood Education desired.
  • Ability to travel for home visits.
Working Conditions
  • Full time, 32.5 hours per week.
  • Schedule in consultation with the school principal or Office of Family, School and Community Partnerships for some evenings (5 per year) and weekend hours (3 per year).
  • $20.00 per hour, member of the CSEA Para educator Union.
