Position Summary

Connecticut State Community College (CT State), as the only open access higher education institution, provides a wide range of educational opportunities to meet the diverse needs of students across the state. A central component of this mission is ensuring equitable access to all academic, co-curricular, and institutional programs.

The Campus Director of Disability and Accessibility Services plays a critical role at the campus level by fulfilling this commitment and overseeing accommodations and services for students with permanent and/or temporary disabilities. The Campus Director ensures compliance with state and federal legislation, engages in the interactive process with students, determines and recommends reasonable and appropriate accommodations that support student success and maintain academic integrity.

The incumbent must demonstrate cultural humility, sensitivity, and the ability to effectively train, guide, and support students, faculty, and staff from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. The Campus Director also provides leadership and guidance in complying with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, and other related legislation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Campus Dean, or other designated administrators, the Campus Director of Disability and Accessibility Services is responsible for expertise in student support, legal compliance, and institutional leadership through effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Student Support & Accommodations
  • Institutional Compliance & Risk Management
  • Training, Outreach, & Community Engagement
  • Administrative Leadership

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Education, Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, Higher Education, or related field together with two (2) or more years of related experience working with individuals with disabilities that includes up to two (2) years of supervisory experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of disability laws, including ADA, Section 504, HIPAA, and FERPA.
  • Expertise in interpreting diagnostic assessments and understanding disability impacts.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and commitment to inclusive excellence.
  • Supervisory experience with staff and/or student workers.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
