Position: Elementary Teacher - Grade 3 - Long-Term sub for LOA

Long-Term Substitute for Leave of Absence - August 20, 2026 through December 31, 2026

We are seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year to serve students in grade 3. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment; implement high-quality instruction aligned to curriculum standards; and support the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. Teachers must demonstrate a commitment to equity, student-centered learning, and ongoing professional growth.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver standards-based instruction in core subject areas including literacy, math, science, and social studies.
  • Create a supportive, positive, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes learning for all students.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English learners and students with IEPs/504s.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and track student progress.
  • Establish clear routines, expectations, and procedures to maintain a safe and orderly classroom.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialists, and support staff to plan and implement effective instruction.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in school-based teams, professional development, and data-driven planning sessions.
  • Integrate technology to enhance teaching and student learning.
  • Support the social-emotional development of students through positive behavior strategies and responsive practices.
  • Maintain accurate student records and complete required reports and documentation.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate instructional practices.
  • Ability to create and implement engaging lessons that support a range of learners.
  • Effective classroom management and organization skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of curriculum standards and assessment strategies.
  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching and inclusive practices.
Qualifications
  • Connecticut State Department of Education Elementary Certification (013).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Experience working in a diverse, urban school setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and digital learning tools.
  • Bilingual or multilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
Salary

Salary and benefits are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education
