Assistant Professor in Creative & Professional Writing (Tenure‑Track, Academic Year ). The successful candidate will serve as Coordinator of Composition and Coordinator of the Writing Center.
Position SummaryThe Coordinator will teach and oversee the university's Composition program, including the first‑year COMP 101, a second‑tier composition course, a tutor training course, and teaching‑in‑the‑schools courses. Responsibilities also include leading curriculum revision, advising on General Education matters, supervising the Writing Center space and student peer tutors, providing development and training to instructors and tutors, and managing the embedded tutor program. Professor duties include maintaining an active research program, serving on committees, and advising students.
QualificationsApplicants must hold a terminal degree (Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or Writing, or an MFA in Writing preferred) at the time of application. They should have evidence of scholarship in Rhetoric and Composition, experience leading a composition program, and experience working in or leading a Writing Center or similar student‑learning services. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in teaching college composition, experience in administration and assessment, experience providing experiential learning (e.g., training student tutors), and a background in faculty development.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
A candidate who does not meet the above standards may be appointed if the credential and/or experience is substantially comparable.
The university is especially interested in applicants who have worked with students from diverse backgrounds and who demonstrate a commitment to expanding access to higher education for first‑generation and under‑represented groups.
Salary & BenefitsHiring salary range: $73,912 – $86,231, commensurate with experience. The university cannot sponsor work visas and requires current U.S. work authorization. Full benefits package, travel, and research funds are available.
