Position Overview

The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting a Technical High School Science Instructor for Henry Abbott Technical High School in Danbury.
Position Highlights- Schedule:
First shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday. - Location:
1 vacancy for Henry Abbott Technical High School in Danbury. - Salary: VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
- Academic Calendar:
Ten‑month, 188 days per year.

Science instructors are responsible for educating students with high‑expectation teaching practices that reflect current pedagogy, learning methods, strategies, and technologies. Success is achieved through student‑centered approaches, differentiation, blended‑learning, and proactive communication with parents.
Responsibilities- Planning and Preparation
- Engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners through differentiation.
- Apply Science content knowledge and pedagogy specific to high‑school curricula.
- Understand the varied needs of each student and work collaboratively with guidance personnel and support services to assist students with special programming, ensuring IEP and 504 accommodations are implemented.
- Set instructional goals and outcomes.
- Use varied instructional practices and resources to design learning opportunities and assessments.
- Classroom Environment
- Develop mutual respect and rapport with students.
- Establish a culture for learning.
- Manage classroom procedures and student behavior positively.
- Organize physical space to maximize learning opportunities.
- Instruction
- Communicate effectively with students and maintain engagement through inquiry, questioning, and discussion.
- Follow the scope and sequence of the approved CTECS instructional program and curriculum.
- Design instruction to meet the needs of all students in individual and small group settings.
- Use ongoing assessments to design clear, specific learning tasks.
- Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to student needs.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Reflect on teaching practices and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain effective communication with students and families.
- Participate in district‑level professional development and collaborative committees to facilitate student education.
- Demonstrate growth in professional craft and adherence to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility.
- Implement CTECS Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
- Maintain confidentiality concerning personnel, student, and operational concerns.
- Report suspected child abuse to appropriate personnel and authorities.
- Well versed in high‑school science curricula.
- Professional experience teaching science.
- Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
- Experience fostering learning, classroom management, and behavior intervention plans.
- Experience delivering ideas through oral and written communication.
- Proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google products.
- Must possess a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate in one of the following areas:
Chemistry (031) and/or Physics (032). A secondary school endorsement is required.
Within the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System, this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.
