Position Highlights
- Schedule:
First shift, full‑time (35 hours per week), Monday through Friday. - Location:
Henry Abbott Technical High School, Danbury, CT. - Salary: VS01‑VS02, based on the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
- Academic Calendar:
Ten‑month calendar (188 days per year).
- Planning and Preparation
- Develop intentional lesson plans that achieve clear objectives and serve all learners through differentiation.
- Use appropriate instructional techniques and resources.
- Design instructional learning opportunities and assessments.
- Classroom Environment
- Establish mutual respect, rapport, and a culture for learning.
- Manage classroom procedures and student behavior.
- Organize physical space to maximize learning opportunities.
- Instruction
- Communicate effectively with students.
- Employ questioning and discussion techniques to keep students intellectually engaged.
- Follow the CTECS approved curriculum and adapt instruction to individual and small group needs.
- Use ongoing assessments to design clear, specific learning tasks.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Reflect on teaching practices and maintain accurate records.
- Communicate with students and families.
- Participate in district and professional development and committees.
- Demonstrate growth, professionalism, and adherence to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility.
- Implement CTECS administrative policies and maintain confidentiality.
- Report suspected child abuse to appropriate authorities.
- Active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in English 015, 4–12, or eligibility for one, including ARC candidates.
- Experience teaching English at the high school level.
- Knowledge of high school English curricula and pedagogy.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
- Experience with 21st‑century standards‑based lesson planning aligned to CT Core Standards in English Language Arts.
- Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
- Proficiency in classroom management and use of educational technology.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Collaborative spirit and problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with support services and implement IEP/504 accommodations.
- Option to maintain State of Connecticut Teacher Retirement Plan or enroll in the State Employee Retirement System.
