Position: Special Education Instructor (Endorsements: 065, 165, 265)

Position Highlights
  • Schedule: First shift, full‑time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday.
  • Location: Henry Abbott Technical High School, Danbury, CT.
  • Salary: VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
  • Academic Calendar: Ten‑month cycle (188 instructional days per year).

Responsibilities
  • Case manage assigned students and oversee development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs.
  • Plan and deliver instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics with accommodations and modifications aligned to IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with academic and trade instructors to co‑plan lessons supporting differentiated instruction for all learners.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant special‑education records per district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Facilitate PTT meetings and prepare documentation of student progress and needs.
  • Design, administer, and report triennial evaluations using multiple assessment methods.
  • Support behavioral programming by contributing data for Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Create a structured, positive classroom environment that promotes appropriate behavior, safety, and workforce readiness.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction, materials, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Maintain professional responsibilities, including family communication, collaboration with staff, adherence to Connecticut professional standards, and mandated reporting obligations.
Qualifications
  • Endorsements: 065 Comprehensive Special Education, PK‑12; 165 Comprehensive Special Education, PK‑12; 265 Comprehensive Special Education, 1‑12.
  • Valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education with a secondary school endorsement.
  • Eligibility to teach at the high‑school level.
  • Case‑management experience in special education.
  • Strong knowledge of assistive technology, differentiated instruction, and assessment.
  • Commitment to professional development and lifelong learning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4 years of experience in a high‑school setting.
  • Experience with trade‑career referral programs.
  • Professional experience related to special education and varied assessments.
  • Familiarity with behavior intervention plans and classroom management.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Special Requirements
  • Valid secondary‑school endorsement on appointment.
  • Compliance with state certification regulations.
