Summary

A packaging engineer is responsible for designing, testing, and optimizing how products are packaged for storage, transport, and delivery. Their work sits at the intersection of engineering, logistics, cost control, and customer experience. The engineer ensures products arrive safely, cost‑effectively, and sustainably. The role requires constant trade‑offs—protecting the product, minimizing cost, and meeting environmental and operational demands all  challenges are Balancing Protection vs.

Cost, Sustainability Pressures, Supply Chain Complexity, Space & Efficiency Constraints, Customization vs. Standardization, Regulatory Changes. The Packaging Engineer reports directly to Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Americas, and bears full responsibility for agreed upon goals and objectives.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, implement and optimize end‑to‑end packaging solutions (including printing and labeling) for the entire BELIMO Group, considering legal and internal requirements in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Lead, coordinate, and implement cross‑functional and cross‑site packaging development projects, considering product‑specific and supply‑chain‑specific global and local requirements.
  • Elicit, write and manage packaging requirements and specifications leveraging existing specifications.
  • Create technical drawings and documentation for labeling and packaging including palletization.
  • Create and validate concepts and prototypes for packaging and labeling.
  • Create and manage packaging and labeling data in CAD/PLM/ERP throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with global and regional packaging regulations and standards.
  • Ensure the verification of packaging solutions against requirements and standards in collaboration with lead verification, product engineers, compliance engineers and external service providers.
  • Validate packaging solutions with relevant stakeholders throughout the entire supply chain, covering production handling, transport safety, storage, and customer‑specific delivery.
  • Research and evaluate packaging materials, technologies, manufacturing processes, and industry trends.
  • Assess and optimize cost, performance and sustainability of packaging solutions and labeling materials.
  • Drive the resolution of quality issues related to packaging design, represent packaging engineering in quality cases.
  • Provide packaging expertise and technical support to other departments (e.g. procurement, innovation) and suppliers.
  • Contribute to the formulation of packaging strategies and make suggestions for global packaging solution range (improvements and complexity reductions).
Who You Are
  • Technical degree BSc or MSc.
  • Education in packaging engineering / packaging technology.
  • Methodological knowledge in packaging & labeling development and lifecycle management.
  • In‑depth methodological knowledge of packaging engineering for corrugated cardboard.
  • Knowledge of the device producing industry (e.g., household and electronic appliances, HVAC field devices, automotive components).
  • At least 3‑5 years of experience in packaging development / lifecycle management.
  • At least 2 years of experience in leading projects for packaging development and interdisciplinary work with product developer.
Benefits

Base pay ranges from $100,000 – $115,000 annually with a target performance bonus of 15% of an employee’s annual base salary. Compensation is based on several factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, education and experience.
