The Development Engineer, Motors & ASIC is accountable for the development of the drivetrain inside our actuators ensuring design quality, robustness, manufacturability and design verification. As technical lead this role is the main contact for adjacent project stakeholders as requirements engineering, project management or product verification. While single system elements of the drivetrain as gear box, motor, motion control, power electronics are developed in different departments, this role has the technical lead and is accountable for designing, configuring and commissioning of the complete drive train together with the team of domain professionals.
In addition, this role ensures harmonization of actuate functions across projects and across products by e.g. ensuring standardized workflows.
- Provides expert input to actuator requirements, reviews, and risk assessments.
- Creates and evaluates design options for drive trains.
- Take design decisions together with the team.
- Configures and commissions drive trains.
- Defines and executes design verification plans for drive trains, including simulation‑based and model‑driven assessments.
- Supports analysis and fix of reported drive train bugs.
- Plans actuator development activities and tracks progress.
- Estimates Actuate development time and costs.
- Manages the Actuate risks.
- Reports and manages stakeholders.
- Coach junior engineers and facilitates technical decision‑making.
- Supports and improves standardized Actuate development workflows and design verification libraries.
- Participates in standardization of tools, automated verification processes, and documentation practices.
- Contribute to consistent system element requirement definitions and reusable design assets
- BSc or MSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with focus on mechatronics, motion control, drive systems, robotics, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of motion control, mechatronic drive systems (motors, gear boxes) and actuator behavior.
- Experience with field‑oriented control, sensorless BLDC motors, power electronics or drive‑train modeling preferred.
- 3+ years of mechatronic, motion control, drive systems or robotics product development.
- 3+ years of experience as technical project manager including leading multi‑disciplinary specialists
- Strong analytical, structured and decision‑making skills
- Team‑oriented, proactive attitude
- Results oriented
- Effective at coaching less‑experienced engineers
- Strong willingness to learn
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- German is an advantage
Belimo is committed to paying all employees in a fair, equitable and transparent manner. The base pay for this position ranges from $90,000 - $110,000 annually with a target performance bonus of 10% of an employee’s annual base salary. Compensation is based on several factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, education and experience.
