SUMMARYAs an integral member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) healthcare team, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) upholds the YNHHS mission, vision, and values and provides the highest level of patient‑centred care within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model.
The RN practices leadership, delegation, collaboration, and effective communication to ensure quality outcomes, with a framework that promotes autonomy and accountability.
The RN provides care that establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients and families, integrates cultural and diversity considerations, communicates and collaborates with all team members, and respects patient values and preferences throughout holistic data collection, outcome formulation, and evaluation.
Responsibilities- Standards of Practice
:
Guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice (2015), the RN performs the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN also coordinates care delivery, teaches health promotion, and evaluates progress toward outcomes. - Standards of Professional Performance
:
Guided by the ANA Standards of Professional Performance (2015), the RN engages in: culture‑congruent practice, ethical practice, effective communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality of practice, professional evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN is accountable for professional actions to patients, peers, and society.
Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. All new RNs must hold current BCLS certification or obtain it within one month of hire.
Experience: Registered Nurse with foundational knowledge; encouragement to advance through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.
Special
Skills:
As a foundational RN, the role supports continuous professional development within SPIRE.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed and currently registered in the state of Connecticut. Clinical specialty certification highly encouraged.
Accountability: Practice within the Scope and Standards of Practice under applicable state law and YNHHS professional standards; oversight by the Chief Nursing Officer and adherence to the chain of command.
Complexity: Demonstrate integrity, patient‑centredness, respect, accountability, and compassion in all clinical decisions and actions.
