Position: Professional Development Specialist RN (Nursing Education), Danbury Hospital

Position Summary

Professional Development Practice Specialist (PDS) responsible for evidence‑based practice in a specialized clinical area within Danbury Hospital, part of Nuvance Health.

Responsibilities
  • Determines nursing practice and system interventions that promote patient, family, and community safety within the special clinical area.
  • Uses effective strategies to change clinician and interdisciplinary team behavior to encourage adoption of evidence‑based practices and innovations in care delivery.
  • Oversees specialty department and division competency assessment processes aligning them on a system level.
  • Identifies and prioritizes emerging needs in collaboration with PD and nursing leadership through assessment and evaluation of current system processes.
  • Facilitates research and quality projects and integrates research findings into the advancement of the clinical practice of the nurse.
  • Participates in processes that may be necessary for changes in organizational structure or goals, accreditation criteria, legal mandates, or advances in diagnosis, treatment and patient outcomes.
  • Cultivates a climate of clinical inquiry across spheres of influence for nursing and nursing partners. Evaluates the need for improvement or redesign of the care delivery process to improve safety, efficiency, reliability, and quality.
  • Provides educational consultation on the specialty unit and organizational level through participation in committees, councils, and administrative teams. Includes systematic evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of clinical practice, use of theoretical frameworks, strategies and methodologies to promote behavior change, promotion of positive learning and practice environments, facilitation of skills, and assessment of knowledge versus performance gaps.
  • Uses knowledge of legal and ethical issues relevant to the special nursing practice.
  • Proficient in EMR documentation systems, including consultation of build, analyzing documentation standards, redesigning documentation requirements, and assessing documentation skills of the clinical nurse.
  • Writes policies on nursing practice in collaboration with nursing leadership and physician partners focusing on the standards set forth by the nursing specialty organization.
  • Develops plans of corrective action, in collaboration with leadership, for clinical staff that do not adhere to the tenants of the specialized nursing practice as determined in organizational policy.
  • Maintains and models Nuvance Health Values and demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Qualifications
    • Minimum 5 years in specialized nursing field.
    • Master’s Degree in nursing required.
    • Knowledge of Connecticut Department of Health nursing practice requirements.
    • Knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation requirements for the Division of Patient Care Services.
    • Experience in delivering group presentation.
    • Current, unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse license.
    • Certificate in BLS, ACLS, and PALS provider status required.
    • Instructor certification in AHA training in one area (BLS, ACLS, PALS) obtained within 6 months of hire.
    • Nursing certification preferred.
    • Strong communication, teamwork, and assessment skills.
    Working Conditions
    • Manual:
      Some manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity.
    • Occupational:
      Some occupational risk.
    • Physical Effort:
      Medium to heavy effort; may exert up to 35 lbs. force.
    • Physical Environment:
      Exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
    Shift

    4x10 hour night shift (9:00 pm–7:30 am) Monday‑through‑Friday (variable). Control hours: 40.

    Salary

    Salary Range: $45.93 – $85.29 Hourly.
