Ridgewood Country Club is a premier private club located in Danbury, CT. Built in 1921 Ridgewood has a rich history.
Not one, but three outstanding course architects have had a hand in the creation of Ridgewood's golf layout, including Deveraux Emmett, Geoffrey Cornish and Robert Rulewich. Ridgewood also offers an outdoor pool and tennis courts.
The Assistant Superintendent works directly alongside the Director of Agronomy to maintain and improve daily playing conditions and long-term turf health. This is a hands‑on role that requires strong agronomic knowledge, leadership in the field, and the ability to step in and lead the operation when called upon. The Assistant will be involved in all aspects of course maintenance, crew management, course setup, and future planning.
PrimaryResponsibilities Daily Course Maintenance & Agronomy
- Assist in planning and executing daily maintenance programs for greens, tees, fairways, and roughs
- Perform and oversee mowing, rolling, topdressing, aerification, verticutting, and cultural practices
- Make real‑time agronomic decisions based on weather, moisture levels, and course conditions
- Actively manage irrigation scheduling and moisture levels
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain irrigation heads, valves, controllers, pumps, and drainage
- Hand‑water as needed to ensure consistent playing conditions
- Scout daily for turf stress, disease, insects, and weeds
- Assist with or independently apply fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with state regulations
- Maintain accurate chemical and application records
- Lead the maintenance crew during daily assignments and projects
- Train staff on proper equipment operation, course standards, and safety procedures
- Help set expectations, maintain accountability, and foster a positive team culture
- Prepare the course for daily play, member events, and tournaments
- Set hole locations and tee markers
- Track labor, irrigation usage, and chemical applications
- Assist with inventory management and budgeting
- Support long‑term planning and course improvement projects

2–3+ years of golf course maintenance experience with increasing responsibility
Strong understanding of turfgrass management, soils, and irrigation systems
Comfortable leading crews, making decisions, and working independently
