Established over 145 years ago, our client is a privately owned Essex based heritage building contractor with an excellent reputation for conservation expertise and quality. They work across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Kent and Hertfordshire as well as into east, north and central London.

They are looking to recruit a skilled Carpenter to join their busy Special Works Department. This is an exciting and varied role which involves working on the refurbishment, restoration and repair of some of the finest heritage and listed buildings across Essex and surrounding counties.

An eye for detail, a keen interest in building preservation and traditional building methods together with a pride in one's work is essential. The role will involve the following:

Responsibilities
  • Structural repairs to timber framed buildings, including sole plate repairs
  • Hand cut timber frame extensions and roofs
  • Installation of stud walls and 1st fix carpentry
  • Installation of doors and windows
  • 2nd fix carpentry works
  • Other detailed carpentry duties
Skills and Experience
  • Formal carpentry qualifications
  • Experience of working on historical and listed buildings would be an advantage
  • Confident and experienced in working with Oak and traditional materials
  • Driving licence
  • To be able to travel to project sites predominantly across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Kent and Hertfordshire
  • Positive attitude, good communicator and a team player
  • Basic H&S knowledge/certification

The Special Works Department works on a wide variety of projects involving the restoration and repair of historical buildings, listed properties, public houses and traditional homes. They work with both commercial and residential clients. They are renowned for their high-quality work and skilled craftsmanship using materials and methods that focus on preserving properties and combine the traditional with modern techniques. The successful applicant will be working alongside other skilled craftsmen and tradesmen who are all highly valued members of their team.
