Speech Language Pathologist

Day Kimball Health is hiring for a part-time (24-32 hour) Speech Language Pathologist to join our Outpatient clinic in Danielson, CT! As the Speech Language Pathologist, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for administering prescribed speech language therapy programs in an effort to reduce and/or prevent disability to help patients achieve their maximum functional potential. First year graduates will be under general supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist.

Speech Language Pathologist

Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and treat patients as prescribed by referring physician.
  • Plan and prepare written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data with realistic, objective, long and short-term goals and time frames.
  • Instruct and assist patients to perform various activities, use of assistive/augmentative communication devices, oral exercises, and functional activities.
  • Record initial evaluation, treatment, response, progress, and discharge information in patient's order. This will include, but not be limited to, therapeutic exercise, language, swallowing, articulation, fluency, voice, cognitive, aural rehabilitation programs in order to maximize independent communication and swallowing.
  • Assesses need and makes recommendation for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, audiological and visual assessment.
  • Educate patient, family and significant others regarding condition, treatment and home program.
  • Routinely confer with physician and other practitioners in person, by phone, or in writing, regarding progress, regression or change of plan.

Speech Language Pathologist

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master's degree from an accredited program in Speech Language Pathology required.
  • Connecticut license or Connecticut license eligible required.
  • First year master's degree graduate (clinical fellow year/CFY) will demonstrate successful intermittent evaluations by the State of Connecticut Department of Health Supervised Professional Experience Plan (SPE).
  • The length of the supervised professional experience period shall be no longer than 12 months full-time employment or 24 months part-time.
  • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology required.
  • Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire required.

Speech Language Pathologist Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Uses common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped.
  • Understands technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals, and labels.
  • Uses eyes, hands, fingers and oral motor movements with skill. Works fast and accurately in emergency situations.
  • Communicates well with people when they are sick, handicapped or nervous.
  • Identifies and acts on priorities for smooth department operation.
  • Maintain discretion in handling the confidential nature of the information available.
  • Keeps up-to-date on current trends and developments in the field of speech language pathology and health services.
