The Town of Danvers is seeking a Sealer of Weights & Measures / Building Inspector to join our Land Use & Community Services, Inspectional Services Office. The Sealer of Weights & Measures must have a thorough knowledge of the accepted requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light, ventilation, and safe egress; as well as general knowledge of other equipment and materials essential for safety, comfort, and convenience of the occupants of a building or structure.
The ability to enforce and interpret regulations such as the State Building Code, the State Sanitary Code, etc., firmly, tactfully, and impartially, along with the ability to analyze problems, prepare technical reports, and formulate recommendations. Be skilled in communications, both written and verbal, to articulate opinions, rationale, and recommendations in a judicious, knowledgeable, and confident manner.

What You'll Do:
As Sealer of Weights & Measures / Building Inspector, you will handle all activities related to state and national regulations on measurement accuracy and assist with building code enforcement construction standards, and public safety as time allows.
Your work will include:
- In accordance with state statute and local ordinances, inspects the accuracy of weighing, measuring, testing, counting of merchandise, sealing and/or condemning any weighing or measuring device involved with public sales.
- Inspects, calibrates, tests, seals or condemns oil and gasoline transportation and metering equipment of terminals, service stations and industries.
- Performs random inspections of supermarkets for outdated products and short weights of produce.
- Enforces Massachusetts State Building Code, US ADA, MA AAB regulations, local bylaws, zoning approvals, and Historic District Commission requirements.
- Inspect new and existing buildings, construction, repairs, and alterations for compliance with approved plans, building codes, zoning, safety, and accessibility requirements; issue certificates of occupancy and inspection, notices of violation, and stop-work orders.
- Conducts structural, mechanical, and safety inspections, including foundations, framing, and systems, to ensure code compliance and construction quality.
- Investigates complaints related to building safety, occupancy, and weights and measures; prepares documentation and evidence for court actions and testifies as required.

An ideal candidate brings:
- Associate's degree in a field related to building construction or design, or experience comparable to expert knowledge of applicable codes, statutes (including MGL 40A), rules, regulations, and bylaws.
- Obtain required certification for the Sealer and Weights of Measures within the first twelve {12) months of employment.
- Certification by the Board of Building Regulations & Standards (BBHS) as a local inspector, or the ability to obtain certification within the first eighteen (18) months of employment.
- Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
- Commercial experience is strongly preferred.

- Up to 19 hours/week
- The hourly pay range is $38.00-$45.00.
