Full Time Faculty, Biology, Natural Sciences Department Division of STEM & Business Primary Campus:
Danvers MCCC/MTA Unit Position

Salary:
Anticipated starting salary is $59,008.00 – $62,000.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. Fulltime benefited employees at North Shore Community College are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package offered through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. At this time, the College is not providing sponsor ships for Visas.

General Statement Of Duties

This position is a full-time, tenure‑track faculty position in the Natural Science Department which offers a variety of courses in Biology, Chemistry, and general science. The faculty member will participate in the teaching, effective delivery and further development and enhancement of the departmental offerings, with particular emphasis on Biology and the Life Sciences curriculum.

The successful candidate must have the ability to relate to a student population that is highly diverse in academic preparation, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds as well as physical and learning abilities.

Essential Functions
  • Teach Introductory Biology, Microbiology, and other life science courses as assigned in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies to maximize student retention and success, develop critical thinking skills, and support a learner‑centered environment.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and assessment of pedagogical methods that facilitate student understanding and retention of biological concepts.
  • Participate in the development and effective delivery of new courses as well as in the evaluation and ongoing revision of current departmental offerings.
  • Assist in determining appropriate goals, objectives and outcomes for various biological science courses.
  • Observe all college and departmental laboratory safety requirements, and provide a safe and appropriate laboratory experience for all students.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff from other departments and disciplines.
  • Provide academic advisement to traditional and nontraditional students.
  • Participate in appropriate college service activities (i.e. committee membership, development of/enhancement to courses/programs and/or resources, program review, recruitment and retention activities).
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to maintain expertise and infuse new methodologies into departmental offerings.
  • Participate in the coordination of departmental courses and initiatives, as needed.
  • Travel between campuses as needed to fulfill workload requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Job Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Biology or related field required.
  • Demonstrated ability and excellence teaching a range of college‑level biological laboratory science courses, including Introductory Biology and Microbiology.
  • Knowledge of current laboratory safety practices for students.
  • Candidate will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Biology or related field.
  • Professional experience in medical research, biotechnology, or related field.
  • Additional expertise in cell biology, biotechnology, microbiology, zoology, ecology or botany preferred.
  • Recent teaching experience in biological laboratory science courses at the college level; community college teaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with using teaching technology and teaching in multiple modalities (in‑person, hybrid, and online).
  • Successful experience interacting with a student population that is highly diverse in academic preparation, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds as well as physical and learning disabilities.
