Position Title: Instructional Assistant (Intensive)
Department: Special Education
Reports To: Assistant Director / Building Principal

Job Summary

The Instructional Assistant‑Intensive (IA) works under the supervision of a special educator to provide intensive, individualized support to students with complex academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional needs. This role is part of a specialized program designed for students requiring targeted interventions due to behavioral challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, or developmental delays. The IA delivers direct, personalized academic and behavioral support in one‑on‑one or small group settings, using evidence‑based strategies to foster skill development, minimize behavioral incidents, and promote overall growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implements individualized behavior support plans (BSPs) under the supervision of a BCBA.
  • Provides direct behavioral support to students, including de‑escalation of challenging behaviors and teaching of appropriate replacement behaviors.
  • Supports students in developing educational, social, emotional regulation, and adaptive skills.
  • Assists students with toileting, hygiene, and other functional living skills as needed.
  • Collects and records data on student progress, behavior incidents, and intervention outcomes, ensuring accurate documentation for review and planning.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to integrate educational or behavior strategies into the educational setting.
  • Participates in team consults, professional development, and ongoing training to enhance skills and stay current with best practices.
  • Maintains a safe and supportive learning environment, ensuring the well‑being of all students.
  • Maintains confidentiality and follows all school and district policies related to student records and privacy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in a specialized setting working with students with autism, developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum one year of experience working with children or youths in specialized education settings, ABA therapy, or related fields preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
