Job Summary:
The Middle School Theater Arts Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering an engaging theater curriculum that introduces students to performance, improvisation, public speaking, and theater appreciation. Through creative and collaborative learning experiences, the teacher fosters artistic growth while supporting students’ social-emotional development, communication skills, and self-confidence.
The successful candidate will create an inclusive classroom environment in which students are encouraged to take creative risks, express themselves authentically, and work effectively as members of an ensemble.
Program Vision
Across all three grade levels, students develop the core social-emotional competencies of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Through ensemble-based learning experiences, students strengthen their ability to collaborate, reflect, and build empathy and confidence—skills that support success both on and off the stage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach theater arts courses for students in grades 6–8, including, but not limited to:
- Theater Arts Exploration, Improvisation and Public Speaking, Theater Appreciation
- Design and implement standards-aligned curriculum, lessons, and assessments that reflect the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks.
- Integrate social-emotional learning competencies—including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making—into daily instruction.
- Foster a classroom culture that values creativity, collaboration, empathy, and respectful communication.
- Teach foundational theater skills, including acting, movement, voice, improvisation, storytelling, stagecraft, and performance analysis.
- Provide opportunities for students to develop public speaking, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
- Facilitate reflective practices and constructive peer feedback that promote personal growth and artistic development.
- Differentiate instruction to support students with diverse learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds.
- Collaborate with performing arts faculty and school staff to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities and student success.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school responsibilities as assigned.
