Field Chemist
As a Field Chemist you will be responsible for sorting and transporting hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste, always ensuring compatibility and safety in all processes for each service provided to customers.
Location / ScheduleThe position reports to the Field Office and is dispatched to projects in the region during the day, reporting back to the office at the end of the day.
Responsibilities- Prioritize health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times.
- Assist in the segregation of chemicals by hazard class and pack compatible materials in appropriate containers; prepare necessary paperwork for each job.
- Determine and load supplies needed for job completion and travel to various industry, laboratory, and educational sites to perform lab pack services.
- Assist in characterizing materials at field project sites.
- Adhere to proper placarding and load segregation requirements when transporting hazardous materials.
- Develop good customer relations by effectively communicating with site points of contact and others at customer locations.
- Appropriately direct Field Technicians and Drivers who are assisting with waste collection.
- Maintain an introductory knowledge of high-hazard materials management, assessment, and cylinder handling.
- Maintain the ability to travel to support outside locations as needed.
- Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization.
- Associate’s degree required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Two or more years of related experience required; experience in lab packing or environmental waste preferred.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain a Class B CDL with Hazmat endorsement within six months of hire.
- Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record search to company standards.
- Must be clean shaven at all times due to potential exposure to atmospheres, waste, or materials that require respirator use.
