Job Description About the RoleWe are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented co‑op student to support ongoing research activities, including a key research project focused on patients undergoing Impella‑supported Transcatheter Edge‑to‑Edge Repair (TEER) in the setting of pulmonary hypertension (PH). These research projects involve extracting and organizing clinical data from real‑world patient source documents to build a comprehensive dataset for physiologic and procedural characterization.
This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in cardiovascular medicine, medical devices, clinical research, or advanced heart failure therapies.
Key Responsibilities- Systematically review and extract clinical and respiratory data from the LOQI source document library.
- Identify and abstract pre‑, intra‑, and post‑procedural parameters for Impella‑supported TEER patients.
- Harmonize variables according to a predefined data dictionary and variable definitions.
- Maintain high accuracy and consistency across large volumes of unstructured clinical documents.
- Document ambiguities and participate in data quality review and adjudication.
- Contribute to developing a physiologic profile of TEER procedures in patients with pulmonary hypertension.
- Support the research team in preparing datasets for downstream analysis.
- Contribute to the efforts of the Advanced Clinical Research team in advancing mechanical circulatory support therapies across multiple research initiatives.
- Currently enrolled in Biomedical Engineering, Health Sciences, Physiology, Nursing, Biology, Public Health, or Data Science.
- Foundational knowledge of cardiovascular and respiratory physiology (coursework or clinical exposure).
- Interest in mechanical circulatory support, cardiac procedures, or critical care physiology.
- Ability to interpret clinical notes, laboratory values, ventilator parameters, and procedural documentation (training will be provided).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
- Ability to follow structured abstraction protocols.
- Comfort working with Excel or structured datasets.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating within a clinical research team.
- Experience with real‑world clinical data or chart review.
- Familiarity with Impella or other mechanical circulatory support devices.
- Exposure to Python, R, or other data analysis tools.
- Understanding of kidney and/or respiratory function markers.
- Hands‑on experience with advanced cardiovascular therapies and real‑world evidence generation.
- Deeper understanding of TEER procedures, pulmonary hypertension, and physiologic monitoring.
- Training in standardized data abstraction and research methodology.
- Experience working with high‑impact clinical data used to support scientific and device‑development questions.
- Mentorship from clinical scientists working in the medical device and heart failure space.
- Experience working cross‑functionally with scientists, clinicians, and data team.
- Preparation for future roles in clinical research, real‑world evidence, or medical devices.
