Job Summary
Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. Operates with a moderate level of supervision, identifying and resolving common issues independently. Provides effective training and education to new employees and students as assigned.

Essential Functions- Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
- Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
- May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
- Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Troubleshoots and resolves specimen, order, and common operational issues within the work area.
- Provides some training and education to new staff and students.
- Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Works fluently with computer programs and systems, and complies with HIPAA regulations.
- Performs other tests, administration, and specimen collection as assigned.
- Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. - Licenses & Credentials:
Phlebotomy Technician [National Certification] – generic, HR preferred;
Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License – generic, HR preferred. - Experience:
1-2 years in phlebotomy required. - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements.
- Good written and oral communication skills, ability to prioritize work, manage time, and adjust to changes.
- Superior customer service skills, empathy, and respect for patients’ privacy and autonomy.
- Problem‑solving skills and ability to manage complex patient collections.
- Independence and effective collaboration within a team.
