- Obtain quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
- Ensure accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
- Assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
- Communicate effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Troubleshoot and resolve specimen, order, and common operational issues within the work area.
- Provide some training and education to new staff and students.
- Handle sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Work fluently with computer programs and systems, and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform other tests, administration, and specimen collection as assigned.
- Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. - Licenses and Credentials:
Phlebotomy Technician [National Certification] – generic – HR Only preferred;
Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] – generic – HR Only preferred. - Experience:
1–2 years in phlebotomy required. - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements.
- Possess good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
- Superior customer service skills, with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy.
- Demonstrate problem‑solving skills and can manage complex patient collections.
- Work independently and collaborate effectively within a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering a collaborative work environment and respecting individuals with varied experiences and perspectives.
