Position: Medical Assistant II- 24 hours, Cancer Center Danvers

Responsibilities

  • Assist junior Medical Assistants with day‑to‑day questions and responsibilities and facilitate their learning during onboarding training.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients and organize educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer‑service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy when competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provide immunizations (as applicable) requiring certification or at least 3 years of experience administering a vaccine under provider supervision.
  • Participate in departmental quality initiatives such as patient identification and hand hygiene compliance.
Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    High School Diploma or Equivalent required;
    Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
  • Licenses & Credentials
    :
    Basic Life Support (BLS) certification;
    Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) preferred.
  • Experience
    :
    Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work of 1–2 years required.

    :
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
    • Accuracy and attention to detail
    • Compliance with local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality regulations
    • Ability to take vital signs, manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples and other specimens
    • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
    • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
    • Logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches
    • Effective time‑management for self and others
