Retail Licensed Optician

Summary: Assists customers with frame selection, fits and dispenses frames. Utilizes technical information to interpret prescriptions and assists customers in selecting optical products and services.

Class: Full Time –
Pay: $27 - $40.50 per hour.

• Assist each customer in frame and lens selection while meeting social distance requirements.
• Ensure compliance with social distancing, cleaning protocols and hygiene practices.
• Provide accurate product information regarding frames, lenses and related services.
• Inform customers covered by third‑party insurance about benefits and any additional charges.
• Use the SERVE sales process to identify customer needs and recommend appropriate lenses. Utilize all available demonstration tools.
• Analyze and interpret patients’ prescriptions; communicate with the lab and optometrist as needed.
• Sell, fit and dispense frames and accessories using accurate measurements, product verification and adjustments per the Eyewear Presentation.
• Maintain a clean and orderly dispensing area.
• Ensure accurate retail customer pricing.
• Maintain license requirements per state guidelines.
• Provide feedback and guidance to apprentice opticians where applicable.
• Adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and proprietary company policies (e.g., HIPAA).
• Participate in all required training and educational activities, including maintenance of professional affiliations and organizational requirements.
• Diligently maintain cleanliness of all equipment, workstations and the overall facility daily.
• Complete additional responsibilities as assigned based on changing business needs.

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

• Must have and maintain applicable state licensure for ophthalmic dispensing.
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability in explaining optical products, services, prescription analysis, fitting and dispensing.

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients and associates.

• Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest and percentages.
• Apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.

• Apply common sense to carry out written, oral or diagram instructions.
• Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Stand, walk, reach with hands and arms most of the time.
• Occasionally stand, walk, and lift or move up to 20 pounds.
• Moderate noise level from computers, printers and machines.
• Frequent hand washing and use of hand hygiene practices.

Competitive pay and benefits. Minimum hourly rate of $27 with possible increase to $40.50 based on experience. Incentive pay, wage upgrades and overtime opportunities are available.
