Therole
The Facilities Mechanic will be responsible for a variety of duties requiring mechanical and electrical aptitude, maintaining and repairing mechanical systems including HVAC, refrigeration, steam, and electrical systems, directly or by managing 3rd party specialists/service providers. Relevant equipment includes packaged air handling units, autoclaves, industrial glass washing units, chillers, ULT freezers, and gas delivery systems.
You’ll have the opportunity toResponsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform highly diversified duties to install, maintain or repair lab or facility support equipment
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of facility equipment as needed and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of equipment through arrangement of acceptable schedules with equipment users
- Perform a variety of plumbing, carpentry and mechanic functions including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic issues and maintenance
- General knowledge of troubleshooting/repair of lab or facility support equipment
- Ability to understand and use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to respond to service and preventive maintenance requests
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service requirements
- Diagnose lab or facility equipment problems, replace or repair parts, test and validate proper operations
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities directly or where appropriate with 3rd party specialists
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties
- Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to appropriate supervision or stakeholder
- Comply with all environmental, health and safety regulations
- Maintain clean and orderly work area
- Must be available for on-call status evenings and weekends
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Cross-functional tasks and special projects as needed
- High school diploma or GED
- Three (3) years relevant experience, ideally within a laboratory environment
- Proven experience as a maintenance mechanic
- Ability to work overtime, be on-call and support emergency after-hours situations, as needed
- Certifications:
Basic electrical energy training;
Lockout/Tagout training
- Basic Hazardous Material training a plus
- Strong general mechanical aptitude and knowledge of laboratory equipment and support systems
- Self-starter, needing minimum direction to accomplish job responsibilities
- Must be able to work well in a team
- Must be able to handle a dynamic environment and adapt to changes
- Must be able to read, understand and follow job plans, procedures and other pertinent job-related documents
- Must be able to read blueprints and understand technical specifications
- Communicate effectively within the facilities team and with all members of CST
- As required, consistent wearing of assigned PPE:
Personal Protective Equipment (lab coats, gloves, safety glasses) and strict adherence to all safety protocols for hazardous or infectious materials - The ability to perform repetitive motions with the wrists, hands, and fingers
