Job SummaryProvides safe and timely transportation for individuals served from their homes to day programs, and/or other authorized locations. Assists with compiling documents related to Northeast Arc and department policies and DDS / MART regulations.
Major Responsibilities- Completes daily runs transporting individuals as assigned by Dispatcher/Director/designee.
- Ensures individuals’ safety while entering/exiting/onboard vehicles; by providing proper assistance, guidance, and interventions as needed.
- Complies with all applicable Agency and Department policies and procedures, i.e.; trainings, safety, cleanliness, seatbelts worn, not eating and drinking in vehicles, refueling at ½ tank, etc.
- Complies with and respects all Massachusetts State / RMV driving laws.
- Reports all vehicle accidents to Police, Director and Dispatcher, and completes required documents. Conducts daily safety checks of vehicle before departure and reports any problems to Dispatcher.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid MA driver’s license
- 3 years driving experience with acceptable Driver Record.
- Experience supporting individuals with disabilities is a plus.
Desire and ability to work with and support individuals with disabilities.
Able to safely operate various types of vehicles, i.e.;
Minivans, SUV’s, 15-Passenger and Wheelchair vans.
Working knowledge of MA State and Federal Laws regarding safe driving. Knowledge of Human Service Transportation and MART Regulations preferred. Ability to use smart-phones, GPS / map software, PC’s, and Microsoft Office programs preferred.
Physical DemandsDrive / Sit while operating a vehicle for extended periods of time.
Enter and exit vehicles several times daily.
Safely assist individuals served while entering, exiting and around vehicles.
Move individuals with wheelchairs in, out, and around vehicles, and operate wheelchair lift.
Bending / kneeling to secure wheelchair tie downs.
Perform general routine vehicle maintenance; cleaning, (exterior washing, windshield, windows, dashboards, etc.), and adjustments or minor repairs.
Perform task-specific cleaning of vehicles.
Clearing snow / ice from and around vehicles, including shoveling snow.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Work EnvironmentDriving on public roadways and in active parking lots.
On foot In and around vehicles and in active parking lots.
Driving and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Limited time for office work, sitting at desk, using computer.
