Position: Criminal Justice Instructor - Full-Time

Position Summary

The Criminal Justice Instructor will provide instruction in the criminal justice field, develop curriculum, syllabus, assessment of program and course learning outcomes, and provide instructional materials and personal insight to provide students with the most optimum opportunity to learn in the criminal justice program.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a wide range of knowledge, talents, and skills to facilitate making learning factual and enjoyable to the students.
  • Develop and implement a course of study and daily lesson plans.
  • Recommend budgetary revisions, the selection of teaching materials, curriculum revisions, textbooks, equipment, and supplies to the Division Dean.
  • Keep abreast of the latest theories of learning through university training, in-service education and staff meetings, conferences, and conventions approved by the College.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm in teaching performance and high expectations for all students.
  • Effectively utilize the materials of the Library in teaching assignments.
  • Implement teaching activities utilizing the approved course of study as a guide, a diversity of teaching techniques, procedures and resources (human and physical) to increase the mental, social, and physical growth of students.
  • Develop and implement evaluation and assessment techniques that are appropriate and timely for each class.
  • Demonstrate respect for the needs of a diverse student population through humaneness and dedication to the education profession.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the latest technology. Willingness to incorporate technology in the classroom.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and deans.
  • Promote the College by participating internally on campus activities and committees and externally in the communities that it serves.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the discipline’s real-world application in the workplace.
  • Participate in planning and implementing program and course level assessments.
  • Participate in ICCB and IAI program and course reviews.
  • Maintain current syllabus, course outline, and credit hour forms using Danville Area Community College provided templates.
  • Attend program curriculum team meetings.
  • Participate in accreditation activities.
  • Maintain a Blackboard shell for communications with students for all courses every semester.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • At least five years of experience in a criminal justice related field.
  • Earned bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, justice administration, criminology, law enforcement, homeland security, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to work with local and regional law enforcement agencies to promote internships and employment.
  • A genuine interest in student development and mentoring.
Desired Qualifications
  • Ten years of experience as a police officer or in a criminal justice related field.
  • Earned master’s degree in criminal justice, justice administration, criminology, law enforcement, homeland security, or a closely related field.
  • Teaching or training experience preferred with law enforcement instructor certifications desirable.
  • Experience with alternative delivery systems (online, hybrid, interactive technologies, Canvas, etc.).
  • Individuals with Quality Matters certification or proof of online teaching certification are encouraged to apply.
