The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer for Correctional Industries (ICI) to lead statewide vocational and business operations that prepare individuals in custody for successful reentry. This executive role combines strategic leadership, workforce development, and public service innovation. Candidates should have strong administrative experience and a passion for driving positive change.

Essential Functions
  • Serves as Chief Executive Officer for Correctional Industries.
  • Develops and maintains ongoing communication with the Department’s Office of Adult Educational and Vocational Services, Re-Entry Services, and other external Departments to ensure that vocational program offerings meet the demands of the labor force and that participants in the ICI program obtain the necessary training and credentials for a successful release from the Department’s custody.
  • Directs and researches vocational programming opportunities.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Serves as Labor Relations Coordinator for Correctional Industries (ICI).
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in Business Administration, Public Policy, or Education.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires the ability to be on-call.
  • Requires the use of agency-supplied technology.
  • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act, requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public.
