- Complete initial patient screening
- Document pertinent patient information in the EMR
- Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing using appropriate equipment and methods
- Assist physicians and nursing staff with procedures using proper techniques
- Assist nurses with patient communication through the EMR worklist
- Maintain the patient care environment and supplies to ensure privacy and safety
- Gather medical records and patient information
- Perform visual acuity screening
- Perform ophthalmic preliminary and diagnostic tests
- Assist with in-office procedures
- Maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments
- Instill eye drops
- Assist with patient scheduling
- Assist with training other ophthalmic assistants
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Strong communication skills
- Dependable, self-motivated, and responsible
- Compassionate and caring approach
- Ability to perform ophthalmic diagnostic and preliminary testing
- Ability to use appropriate ophthalmic equipment and methods
- Ability to assist physicians and nursing staff with procedures
