Description:
The unit has 5 labor and delivery beds.
There are 2 OR suites available for C-Sections.
The unit includes 1 L&D triage bed.
There are 3 single postpartum rooms and 4 double postpartum rooms used as single patient rooms, with support persons allowed to stay in an extra bed.
The number of births varies widely each day.
AWHONN guidelines for ratios are followed, with a 1:1 active labor ratio, up to 1:3 for antepartum/triage/early labor, and 1:6 for mother-baby.
Common diagnoses include labor, antepartum, postpartum, GYN surgical cases, and neonates.
There is a charge nurse present 24/7, who takes a patient assignment when necessary.
A surgical tech is available on every shift, and occasionally a Patient Care Tech may be present depending on the census and acuity.
Respiratory therapy equipment for adults is not available; however, CPAP, HFNC in the nursery, and occasional vents while awaiting transport can be used.
There are no tele/monitor technicians on this unit.
The EFM system used is Obix.
Shifts are 12 hours, typically only one shift, and not rotating.
Block scheduling can be accommodated.
Traveling RNs must work every other weekend and every other holiday.
There is generally no call or standby requirement.
Floating to other units is not required.
Client-provided scrub color and dedicated shoes or shoe covers are necessary if shoes are not dedicated.
Department-specific orientation is required for 2 shifts.
The facility uses the EPIC charting system.
