Position Overview
DePauw University, an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer, is hiring a Police Officer. The position will remain open until filled and is not eligible for immigration sponsorship at this time. Officers will work the third shift (11pm to 7am) and are required to work weekends. Additional or different shifts may be required as needed.
Essential Functions- Enforce the established rules and regulations of DePauw University and the laws of the State of Indiana, including traffic and parking regulations.
- Conduct proactive mobile and foot patrols of university-owned buildings, facilities, common areas and streets, and identify and act upon vulnerabilities to maximize the safety of faculty, staff, students, visitors and assets.
- Respond to criminal and non‑criminal complaints/incidents and initiate appropriate action; conduct investigations of incidents within the primary jurisdiction and within extended jurisdiction as policy dictates.
- Arrest persons who within view commit any offense, as defined and stipulated in the Indiana Criminal Code, without process.
- Document criminal and related non‑criminal incidents using established reporting procedures and forms; prepare written cases for the University Community Standards and the criminal justice system when necessary.
- Assist the community by providing emergency services and public relations services such as information, access, escorts, vehicle unlocks and jump‑starts.
- Provide security, traffic control and aid in emergency readiness at various events as needed.
- Provide or partner in providing safety education/awareness programs for university constituents.
- Maintain proficiency with the university’s security technology initiatives, including routine inspection for proper operation.
- Assist with performance evaluations, staff development, training needs and aptitude for daily tasks.

- Education:
High School Graduate or GED required;
Associate degree or higher in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred. - Experience:

Ability to learn records management software and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps. - Communication:
Ability to read, listen and comprehend simple instructions, write and communicate simple correspondence. - Math:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
- Must have completed the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy training (ILETB standards) or an equivalent program accepted by the ILETB.
