Position SummaryUnder general supervision of the Finance Director, the Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of professional accounting duties in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as set forth by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and applicable local government regulations. This position assists in maintaining the financial records of the City of Danville, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone
Duties/Responsibilities- Responsible for general ledger maintenance, including preparing and posting journal entries.
- Responsible for reconciling general ledger accounts, including bank accounts, investments, receivables, payables, and other balance sheet accounts, on a regular basis.
- Investigates and resolves discrepancies in account balances.
- Maintains organized and well‑documented accounting records.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Gather and analyze financial data to support reporting requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of schedules and work papers for the annual audit.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget.
- Prepares payment requisitions for debt service transfers, fees, and agreements; maintains historical data on debt service requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual Capital Improvement Plan.
- Assist in maintaining internal controls over financial reporting, identifying control weaknesses, and ensuring compliance applicable policies.
- Review and record lease transactions.
- Prepare and submit annual escheatment to the Kentucky State Treasurer.
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge of acceptable fund accounting practices and principles.
- Serves as backup to other finance staff as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical ability with sound knowledge of financial and accounting principles.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision along with the ability to exercise independent judgment regarding key accounting practices and principles.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting practices and principles.
- Ability to work in a team environment, with the ability to work across all levels of City officials, employees, agencies, organizations, and the general public.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting software programs with the ability to learn and utilize the City’s financial accounting software programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field is preferred.
- 3-5 years of general accounting experience is required.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of governmental accounting, auditing, financial reporting, internal control mechanisms, fixed asset accounting and budgeting.

- Walking, twisting, stooping, and bending on a regular basis.
- Must be able to sit at a workstation for extending periods of time.
$52,526 - $74,758 annually
Candidate's starting salary will be commensurate with their level of experience.
