The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a hospital or health system through accurate accounting, financial reporting, and analysis. This role plays a key part in the month-end close process, account reconciliations, and regulatory reporting, while partnering with revenue cycle and operational departments to ensure financial accuracy and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills and experience within a hospital or healthcare environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and post journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy.
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of variances.
Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including financial statement preparation.
Assist with net patient revenue calculations, contractual adjustments, and reimbursement analysis.
Collaborate with revenue cycle and patient financial services teams to ensure accurate reporting of patient accounts and receivables.
Support the preparation of Medicare and Medicaid cost reports and other regulatory filings.
Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations to leadership.
Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
Participate in internal and external audits, including financial statement and compliance audits.
Identify process improvement opportunities and support system enhancements or implementations.
Maintain compliance with GAAP, healthcare regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with hospital or healthcare experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
Understanding of healthcare reimbursement concepts (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payors) preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
CPA or CPA-eligible preferred.
Experience with hospital financial systems.
Familiarity with regulatory reporting or cost report preparation.
Experience in a multi-entity healthcare organization.
Salary range: $75,000 – $95,000 (based on experience)
