Adjunct Faculty:
Augustine and Culture Seminar Program

Villanova University's first‑year seminar program, the Augustine and Culture Seminar Program (ACSP), accepts applications throughout the calendar year to teach its two‑semester humanities seminar. With a reading list grounded in the Augustinian, Catholic, and liberal arts traditions, the Augustine and Culture Seminar (ACS) is reading‑and‑writing‑intensive and also facilitates student engagement in the intellectual, cultural, and artistic life of the University and the greater Philadelphia area.

Students from all four colleges (Liberal Arts & Sciences, Nursing, Engineering and Business) take the two courses (1000 Ancients and 1001 Moderns) in this program taught by 25+ full‑time faculty from a wide range of disciplines.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Teach two‑semester first‑year humanities sequence (ACS 1000: Ancients and ACS 1001: Moderns) to upper‑division undergraduate students.
  • Develop and deliver seminar course materials and assessments grounded in Augustinian and Catholic intellectual traditions.
  • Engage students in critical reading, writing, discussion, and creative assignments that integrate classroom and co‑curricular “Approved for ACS Course Credit” events.
  • Write and revise course syllabi, assignments, and assessments that emphasize the writing process, argument, and analysis.
  • Mentor students in the intellectual, cultural, and artistic life of the University and the greater Philadelphia area.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, departmental service, and program‐wide events.
  • Maintain current scholarship in the humanities and related fields.
  • Adhere to Villanova's policies on academic integrity, accessibility, and diversity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a humanities or social science discipline at the time of application.
  • Demonstrated potential for effective, innovative, student‑centered pedagogy.
  • Experience teaching writing to undergraduates.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching first‑year seminar courses.
  • Strong record of scholarship in the humanities.
  • Commitment to Villanova's mission and Catholic values.
