Job Summary

Geisinger is offering a full‑time inpatient RN position with a hiring incentive of up to $21,500 for eligible candidates. The minimum hiring rate is $41.50, with potential shift differentials of up to $7 for evening, night, and weekend shifts, and relocation assistance is available.

Unit Description

The Medical Intensive Care Unit is a 24‑bed critical‑care unit focused on advanced acute patients. It operates as a closed service with providers on site and a multidisciplinary collaborative team. Shared governance gives autonomy to charge nurses and unit staff, supported by an Operations Manager, two Team Coordinators, and two Clinical Nurse Educators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, organize, perform, and evaluate nursing activities to meet patient needs.
  • Promote adaptive responses of patients and families to achieve the highest level of care, safety, and satisfaction.
  • Provide compassionate care during patient‑nurse interactions.
  • Coordinate patient care and staff interactions.
  • Ensure the best patient and family experience by optimizing all interactions.
  • Complete assessments per scope of practice and unit standards.
  • Address physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs across the continuum of care.
  • Formulate, coordinate, and provide a plan of care per unit standards, including education, family needs, and discharge planning with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Deliver direct patient care: treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies per policy and procedure.
  • Evaluate intervention effectiveness and revise plans based on patient response.
  • Initiate collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and other interdisciplinary members, proactively resolving patient needs.
  • Problem‑solve, troubleshoot, and take corrective action in equipment handling.
  • Participate in unit decision‑making regarding evidence‑based practice.
  • Act as a team member working toward unit and organizational goals; accountable for unit and system metrics.
  • Participate in patient quality and safety education and related activities to improve departmental and organizational safety.
  • Work in a clinical environment; comply with all organization policies and obligations.
Qualifications & Education
  • Education:

    Graduate from Specialty Training Program‑Nursing (Required).
  • Certifications & Licenses:
    Basic Life Support Certification (Default Issuing Body), Licensed Registered Nurse – Pennsylvania ( of Pennsylvania).
  • Desired skills:
    Critical thinking, rapid decision‑making under stress, detail orientation with big‑picture perspective, integrity, willingness to self‑report mistakes, curiosity to understand the “why.”
  • Experience:

    Advanced acute or ICU nursing experience and background preparing for advanced practice nursing degrees (NP or CRNA) are preferred.
