Job Summary
Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) is seeking an Inpatient Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high‑quality patient care on a per‑diem basis. This role offers competitive market wages, up to $7 shift differential for evening, night, and weekend shifts, and opportunities for professional development within a Magnet‑recognized environment.
Responsibilities- Assess patient care plans, organize, perform, and evaluate nursing activities to meet individual patient needs.
- Promote adaptive responses of patients and families to achieve the highest level of patient care, safety, and satisfaction.
- Coordinate patient care interactions and staff collaboration to ensure optimal patient/family experience.
- Complete patient assessments as established by scope of practice and unit standards.
- Address the physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families across the continuum of care.
- Formulate, coordinate, and provide a plan of care, including education, family needs, and discharge planning, as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Deliver direct patient care, including treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies, according to policy and procedure.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions, revise care plans based on patient response.
- Initiate collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and other team members to resolve patient needs proactively.
- Problem‑solve, troubleshoot, and take corrective measures regarding equipment and patient care.
- Participate in unit‑based decision‑making involving evidence‑based practice.
- Contribute to team goals, unit and system metrics, and quality/safety education programs.
- Comply with all organizational policies and procedures, ensuring job‑specific obligations are met.
- Graduate from a Graduate Specialty Training Program in Nursing (Required).
- Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) – of Pennsylvania.
- Basic Life Support Certification.
- Experience with adult inpatient care, including use of Multiservice Support teams (e.g., Physical & Occupational Therapy, Vascular Access).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and clinical judgment skills.
- Commitment to patient safety, cultural sensitivity, and continuous improvement.
Per‑diem employees self‑schedule a minimum of 24 hours of availability for each 4‑week period, with at least 8 hours on a weekend or holiday shift. Minimum of 24 hours of core needs must be covered per schedule.
