Patient Companion - Central Region Float Pool; Emergency Departments​/Night Rotation

Overview

Patient Companion position at Geisinger Medical Center. 40 hour weekly commitment, scheduled shift rotation with day and night shifts. Sign‑on bonus up to $1,500, base hourly pay $15.25 with potential float premium and shift differentials.

• Provide safe environment, companionship and supportive care for patients requiring constant observation as identified by a nurse or physician.
• Maintain constant observation of patients, 1:1 supervision, and accompany patients when they must leave the unit.
• Maintain a safe, private, and comfortable therapeutic environment.
• Redirect impulsive or harmful behavior and remain in clear sight of patients unless instructed otherwise.
• Call for assistance when unable to redirect or when there is risk of self‑injury.
• Participate in shift report at beginning and end, communicating pertinent information to the registered nurse.
• Accompany patients to all clinical tests, procedures, or appointments off the unit.
• Engage patients through conversation to keep them focused.
• Assist patients with meals (when swallowing precautions permit) and with carbohydrate counts.
• Assist with bed making, activate bed/ chair alarms, and help staff walk patients.
• Comply with all organization policies, procedures, and job‑specific obligations.

• Central Region Float Pool including Bloomsburg GBH, Danville GMC, Shamokin GSACH campuses, and emergency departments.
• Shifts:
  
  Day 7:00a.m.–3:30p.m.;
  Night 11:00p.m.–7:30a.m.; includes every other weekend and holiday.
• Orientation:
  Two‑week classroom orientation, Monday–Friday, 7:00a.m.–3:30p.m.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required.
• Certification(s) and License(s) – as applicable to the role.
