Associate Professor​/Clinical Investigator - Nephrology

Job Summary

Geisinger’s Department of Nephrology and Center for Kidney Health Research seeks a BCNephrologist with a strong record of competitive grant funding and publication. The role offers 80% protected research time and dedicated support staff, including project management and biostatistical support. Candidates will leverage 25+ years of longitudinal electronic health records, a >175k exome sequencing study (MyCode), and a system‑wide biobank to conduct clinical epidemiology, comparative effectiveness research, health services research, and observational analyses in a culture that emphasizes rapid clinical deployment.

• Provide technical and intellectual leadership to a coherent research program that contributes new knowledge to the relevant areas of investigation.
• Direct day‑to‑day development, maintenance, and supervision of a productive and nationally competitive research program.
• Identify research questions, formulate hypotheses, plan experiments, record observations and data, analyze data, and draw conclusions.
• Prepare and submit applications for external funding from national agencies; secure funding to support the research program.
• Oversee completion of the specific aims of funded projects.
• Maintain a record of independent scholarship demonstrated by high‑quality publications in the discipline.
• Solidify an emerging national and international reputation through presentations at national meetings, service on study sections or ad hoc grant review committees, and peer review for journals.
• Take a lead role providing technical assistance to other departments, clinical associates, residents, fellows, and students.
• Perform work in an office environment while complying with all organizational policies and procedures.
• Supplement research initiatives with clinical duties as needed, including inpatient and outpatient consultative services, dialysis, and graduate medical education.

The Department of Nephrology is an academic department that includes a fellowship program and over 20 faculty members. The Center for Kidney Health Research (CKHR) co‑led by Dr. Chang and Dr. Green focuses on decreasing the burden of kidney disease through a clinic‑based, patient‑oriented research program in a learning health‑care system.
