The Project Manager will be responsible for directly overseeing state and federally funded highway construction projects. This position will work closely with the Owner/Prime Contractor and Adams field personnel to schedule, plan, and execute to successfully complete the milling and paving portions of large construction projects.
Responsibilities- Oversee both long term and short-term scheduling for each job in accordance with the project phasing
- Establish and clearly communicate the plan and goals for each shift to all necessary parties
- Review and identify potential safety or constructability issues and clearly communicate them to relevant personnel
- Coordinate with various internal divisions to ensure all necessary personnel and equipment for the shift are ready and available
- Document daily productions, quantities, locations of work, and notes about miscellaneous occurrences on the jobsite
- Work closely with inspectors and quality control staff to ensure all VDOT specifications are being met
- Phase construction to maximize efficiency while also minimizing safety hazards to both employees and general public
- Ability to overcome unforeseen obstacles when they arise in the field
- Coordinate with owner and general contractor on a regular basis to ensure that overall project schedule and goals are being met
- Remain informed about incurred costs versus estimated costs to ensure that the project is built within the estimated budget
- Ability to lift and carry heavy loads of up to 75 pounds or more on a day-to-day basis
- The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
- Capacity to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods, often ranging from 8 to 14 hours, without "giving out" or fatiguing
- The ability to quickly make coordinated movements of one hand with its arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
- The ability to quickly move the arms and/or legs
- Comfort working in extreme temperatures (heat and cold), humidity, and dusty environments
- High School Diploma/GED
- Civil Engineering, Construction Management or comparable degree preferred (years of relevant experience in lieu of college degree may also be considered)
- 5+ years’ experience with DOT highway construction highly preferred
- Experience working on VDOT construction projects, specifically Design Build and Bid Build projects is highly preferred
- Proven experience managing construction crews and projects
- Ability to read and understand highway construction plans
- Thorough understanding and proficiency in asphalt grading, compaction, and sub-grade preparation
- Experience and understanding of asphalt milling and paving operations is preferred
- Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
