About the Position
Danville Community College invites applications for a full‑time, face‑to‑face Instructor of Communication Studies. The role involves teaching a combination of college composition and literature courses, advising students, collaborating with faculty, and contributing to program assessment and community outreach.
Teaching Responsibilities- Teach assigned communication courses in accordance with college policies.
- If dually credentialed in a Fine Arts field, teach courses such as Art Appreciation, Introduction to Theatre, or Music in Society.
- Maintain current knowledge of the Communication Studies field and incorporate evidence‑based instructional strategies.
- Teach various day, night, and online courses, as needed.
- Complete Canvas and Regular Substantive Interaction (RSI) training.
- Participate in professional development related to teaching and Communication Studies.
- Advise students on program requirements, career pathways, and transfer opportunities.
- Assist students in understanding pathways to credentials, licensure, or bachelor’s degree programs.
- Participate in student recruitment, orientation sessions, and program outreach events.
- Support student retention and program completion initiatives.
- Assist the dean with planning, scheduling, and coordination of Communication Studies courses.
- Serve as a resource and liaison for adjunct and full‑time faculty.
- Facilitate sharing of curriculum resources, instructional materials, and best practices.
- Assist with onboarding of new adjunct faculty.
- Coordinate faculty participation in program assessment and accreditation activities.
- Collaborate with community partners to support workforce development initiatives.
- Represent the ASB Division in community events, advisory committees, and professional organizations.
- Assist with collection and analysis of program data.
- Prepare documentation and reports for institutional and accreditation review.
- Maintain involvement in Communication Studies organizations and initiatives.
- Stay current on the field and teaching best practices.
- Participate in college service, committees, and professional development activities.
Master’s degree in Communication Studies or a Master’s with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Communication Studies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion and use sound judgment.
- Strong time‑management, problem‑solving, and conflict‑management abilities.
- Strong personnel management skills with emphasis on instructional expertise.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency with campus learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and technologies to enhance instruction.
- Commitment to teaching excellence and the community college mission.
- Willingness to travel for professional development.
- Dually credentialed in a Fine Arts field (Art Appreciation, Introduction to Theatre, or Music in Society) with 18 graduate hours in a Fine Arts field.
- Prior teaching experience in a community college setting.
- Experience with People Soft, Microsoft Office, and Learning Management Systems.
- Demonstrated success working with students, faculty, and administration.
