Adjunct Instructor of History
The Arts, Sciences and Business division seeks an Adjunct Instructor to teach History. Adjunct Instructors are supported by faculty and staff in the development of courses and are involved in decisions about curricula.
Job Duties:
- Teach various day, night and online courses, as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance/participation and grades.
- Complete Canvas training.
- Recruit and advise students.
- Assist students with job placement.
- Perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor.
Teaching Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned in-person History courses in accordance with college policies.
- Maintain current knowledge of the History field of study.
- Incorporate developmentally appropriate practice and evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Teach various day or evening courses, as needed.
- Participate in professional development related to teaching and History.
Student Recruitment:
- Support student retention and program completion initiatives.
Faculty Collaboration and Support:
- Facilitate sharing of curriculum resources, instructional materials, and best practices.
- Assist with onboarding of new adjunct faculty.
- Participate program assessment and accreditation activities.
Program Data and Reporting:
- Assist with collection and analysis of program data.
- Prepare documentation and reports required for institutional and accreditation review, such as program reviews and annual program assessment.
Professional Engagement:
- Stay current on the History field of study and teaching best practices.
Other duties as assigned.
Special Assignments
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in History or related field, or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in History. Excellent Microsoft Office skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time-management skills. Ability to utilize campus resources including software and college learning management systems. Ability to exercise discretion and use sound judgement in decision making. Ability to adjust to change, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks as needed.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to communicate with a variety of faculty, staff, enrolled students, prospective students, and community members. Skilled in written and oral communication. Skilled in monitoring, mentoring, and evaluating. Skilled in developing, implementing, and communicating college policies and procedures. Skilled in problem-solving and working effectively with administration, faculty, staff and students. The ability and willingness to market the program to potential students of all ages and backgrounds.
Commitment to teaching excellence with an enthusiasm for teaching. Ability to use technology to enhance instruction. Ability to effectively teach in distance learning modalities.
Additional Considerations
- Prior teaching experience Work experience in the field Knowledge and experience with using People Soft Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) Experience working in a community college setting Demonstrated success working with students, faculty, and administration
