Teacher - Reading Specialist (Bonner/Westwood/Rise)

Under the supervision of the principal, the Reading Specialist plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students, fostering an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. The role includes supervising students in various school‑related settings, monitoring and evaluating outcomes, communicating with students, parents, staff, and the community, and developing and modifying instructional literacy plans and materials. Records are maintained, equipment and facilities are monitored, and prescribed procedures are followed.

• Instruct students with an intense focus on literacy, following the curriculum, assessment, and review processes.
• Plan, develop, write, and implement lesson plans that include targeted instruction for all students, including those below grade level.
• Provide instruction that improves reading fluency, comprehension, phonetics, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary.
• Work collaboratively with staff to create literacy instructional plans and serve on committees.
• Administer quarterly and ongoing assessments to track student progress and determine next instructional steps.
• Develop a system to document and maintain data on student progress.

• Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement.
• Knowledge of the Science of Reading and Virginia Literacy Act.
• Experience in using and analyzing a variety of literacy assessment tools.

10‑month contract (200 days)

Salary: $47,964 to $73,963 Per Year
