Work Schedule

Part-time; day and/or evening assignments based on enrollment and program needs. Laboratory instruction is conducted on campus, and courses may follow an accelerated instructional block schedule.
Responsibilities may include work during the day and/or evening classes for program placed students and non-curricular-students, as well as its distance learning classes.
This is a part-time teaching assignment at the College. The format of the teaching role could be face-to-face, hybrid, and remote, depending on the course.

Job Description

Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946, and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors.

Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.
Danville Community College invites applications for adjunct instructors in the Aviation Maintenance Technology ( AMT ) program. This part-time, as-needed position provides competency-based classroom and laboratory instruction aligned with Title 14 CFR part 147 requirements, applicable FAA Airman Certification Standards, VCCS course requirements, and College policies. Course assignments are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to enrollment and program needs and do not guarantee continued or future employment.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver assigned AMT classroom and laboratory instruction using approved course materials and syllabi.
  • Supervise practical projects and ensure that students use approved technical data, tools, equipment, materials, and safe maintenance practices.
  • Assess and document student knowledge, risk management, and skill performance in accordance with established course and competency standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely attendance, grade, assessment, and competency records.
  • Maintain a safe, professional, and orderly classroom and laboratory environment, including tool, equipment, and material accountability.
  • Use the College learning management system and other instructional technologies effectively.
  • Communicate regularly with students and the AMT Program Manager regarding progress, attendance, and instructional needs.
  • Participate in required orientation, training, meetings, and course coordination activities.
  • Perform other instructional duties associated with the assigned course.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology from an accredited institution.
