This position requires eligibility to access controlled unclassified information (CUI) and export controlled data, and candidates must meet applicable federal requirements, including U.S. person status where required. This role is onsite in Danville, VA.
The Pay, Perks, & Benefits- Range: $68,598 - $77,611. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and determined based on market benchmarks and internal equity

What You Will Do
As an Additive Manufacturing Instructor, you will deliver hands‑on technical training that prepares students for careers in advanced manufacturing and the defense industrial base. You will develop and deliver curriculum, provide classroom and laboratory instruction, mentor adult learners, and ensure students gain the skills needed to succeed in modern manufacturing environments. This role requires a passion for teaching, technical expertise in additive manufacturing, and the flexibility to support accelerated training schedules.
- Develop, maintain, and deliver curriculum related to additive manufacturing processes and applications.
- Provide classroom, laboratory, and hands‑on instruction in an accelerated workforce training environment.
- Teach additive manufacturing safety practices, industry standards, and operational best practices.
- Guide, mentor, and support adult learners throughout their training experience.
- Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback to promote student success.
- Maintain instructional materials, equipment, and laboratory readiness.
- Collaborate with instructors, program staff, and industry partners to continuously improve training outcomes.
- Stay current with emerging additive manufacturing technologies, materials, and industry trends.
- Support program activities that may require travel, evening classes, weekend instruction, or training at off‑campus locations.
As an Additive Manufacturing Instructor in the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) program, you will help develop the next generation of skilled manufacturing professionals. Through curriculum development, hands‑on instruction, and student mentorship, you will prepare adult learners for careers supporting the nation’s defense industrial base. Your technical expertise, instructional leadership, and commitment to student success will ensure trainees develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in advanced manufacturing environments.
ShiftAvailability
ATDM Instructors and Technicians are assigned shifts based on training needs. Shift assignments are determined by business needs at the time of hire, performance, and tenure. This position requires flexibility to work any shift as program needs evolve. Compensation includes a shift differential based on assigned instructional hours. This position will support training on third shift.
- First Shift: Classes begin at 7:00 a.m.
- Second Shift: Classes begin at 3:00 p.m.
- Third Shift: Classes begin at 11:00 p.m.
Evening, weekend, and off site instructional assignments may be required.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Associate degree, bachelor's degree in a related field, or a minimum of two years of experience with additive manufacturing processes.
- Experience with Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM).
- Extensive experience using CAD/CAM software applications, preferably Fusion 360 or Mastercam.
- Extensive experience with additive manufacturing slicing software, preferably Eiger.io.
- Experience with additive manufacturing processes involving metals and/or polymers.
- Demonstrated experience teaching, training, or instructing adult learners.
