Under the general direction and supervision of the Financial Aid Director and School Certifying Official, the Veteran Support Specialist performs a variety of duties associated with the processing of state, federal, institutional, and local financial aid programs. The Veteran Support Specialist assists students in completing the FAFSA application, Federal Student Loan applications, and Veteran certifications. The Veteran Support Specialist serves as contact for Veterans and/or students receiving Veteran benefits.
The Veteran Support Specialist serves as Second Chance Pell Liaison, provides high quality customer service to all internal and external constituencies, and provides support to maintain office structure and continual workflow.
- Knowledge of Federal and State financial aid programs and regulations.
- Knowledge of financial aid processing, verification, and data conflict resolution.
- Ability to maintain up to date knowledge of Veteran benefits and regulations.
- Ability to develop and maintain internal procedures as it pertains to Veteran certifications and reports.
- Ability to problem solve, organize data, and pay close attention to details.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Ability to learn new technology and adapt to a frequent change in processes.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Office 365, Google Suite, and similar applications.
- Desire to learn and grow in the role.
- Work experience in higher education areas such as financial aid and/or veteran services
- Experience using tools such as EAB Navigate, People Soft SIS, Canvas, and Enrollment Manager
- Prior military experience in personnel or benefit services
