6A is a unique department with 36 physical beds. 24 of those beds are Telemetry beds, staffed at a 1:6 nurse‑to‑patient ratio. The remaining 12 beds are Progressive Care, staffed at a 1:4 ratio.

We see patients with complaints of chest pain, arrhythmias, post‑cardiac catheterization, post‑pacemaker or ICD implants, respiratory distress, renal failure, surgical patients with significant cardiac histories, pulmonary embolism, and vascular interventions requiring high‑risk anticoagulation management. The blended unit concept is unique and creates a cohesive group of caregivers united behind a common goal. • Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
• Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
• Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
• Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
• Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
• Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

Applicants should have a current VA RN license.

Bachelor's degree required within 3 years of hire or transfer to this role.

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support
• Experience in acute care hospital, preferred
• American Heart Association ACLS within 6 months of hire
