About the Role:
Renders professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit of nursing facility. Supervises and coordinates activities of assigned nursing personnel. Demonstrates clinical expertise which may not exceed Standards of Practice accorded by license as a Registered Nurse.
Makes a full and detailed report to oncoming charge nurse on conditions of patients or of any unusual circumstances. Answers telephone inquiries as necessary. Accounts for narcotics on assigned unit. Assigns duties to nursing personnel based on patient’s needs, available staff and unit needs. Sees that the duties of the nursing staff on assigned units are carried out as assigned and evaluates nursing care.
Demonstrates nursing techniques and procedures and assists nursing personnel in rendering nursing care on unit.
Analyzes and evaluates nursing service needs and staffing requirements and makes recommendations to Director of Nursing. Gives guidance to personnel as needed, evaluates performances, discusses progress and need for improvement and prepares evaluations of performance. Disciplines employees in accordance with established procedures. Makes recommendations for terminating personnel. Handles patient or personnel grievances in accordance with established policies. Assists in establishing good public relations.
