NDT Level II RT/PT Technician
Position Summary:
The NDT Level II RT/PT Technician is responsible for performing non‑destructive evaluations and production activities at the company's Danville, Virginia testing facility to ensure testing activities meet client requirements. The technician conducts inspections using Level II certifications in Radiographic Testing (RT), Penetrant Testing (PT), and other applicable methods, evaluates the integrity of inspected components in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and specifications, and reports inspection results to the appropriate personnel.
The role also supports job preparation, coordination, reporting, and other assigned activities under the direction of the Project Manager or NDT Manager (Level III).
- Perform non‑destructive testing and evaluations in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Conduct Radiographic Testing (RT), Penetrant Testing (PT), and other qualified NDT methods as required.
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, quality requirements, laws, regulations, and customer specifications.
- Stop work when unsafe conditions or quality concerns are identified.
- Perform routine safety observations and inspections.
- Complete pre‑job preparations, including equipment setup, job walkdowns, and procedural reviews.
- Prepare materials and components for NDE during manufacturing.
- Interface with customers while performing inspection activities.
- Assist in training Technicians, Assistants, and Apprentices within the assigned work scope.
- Verify that work and materials comply with manufacturer and customer specifications.
- Evaluate defects, make accept/reject decisions, and determine disposition in accordance with applicable codes and specifications.
- Perform post‑job equipment shutdown, walkdowns, and procedural reviews.
- Complete inspection reports and all required documentation within established deadlines.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of NDT work experience.
- NDT Level II certifications in Radiographic Testing (RT – X‑Ray Film, CR) and Penetrant Testing (PT). Additional method certifications are an advantage.
- Strong understanding of mechanical concepts and spatial relationships.
- Knowledge of basic NDT principles, processes, and limitations.
- Knowledge of basic algebra and trigonometry.
- Ability to read, interpret, and prepare technical specifications and procedures.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills for working with customers and colleagues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Outlook.
- Ability to navigate web‑based service literature and programs.
- Understanding of NAVSEA requirements and specifications or willingness to learn.
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing, casting radiography, DICONDE implementation, CAD software, and advanced RT technologies such as CR, DR, CT, and AI is desirable.
- Demonstrated willingness to continuously learn and expand technical knowledge.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain driving eligibility.
- Ability to pass pre‑employment background screening and initial as well as random drug testing.
- Ability to provide verifiable evidence of previous certifications, ASNT‑recommended training, or successful completion of applicable training programs and examinations.
- Ability to meet or exceed company quality program requirements for work experience and certification.
- Ability to work in a climate‑controlled indoor shop environment with potential exposure to ionizing radiation.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and occasionally lift or push up to 50 lbs.
