Quality Engineer

A lithium battery separator manufacturing facility in Danville, VA is seeking a Quality Engineer to support and improve quality systems, manufacturing processes, and product performance. This role works cross functionally with Operations, Engineering, R&D, Supply Chain, and Production teams to ensure products meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and internal quality expectations.

Compensation: $90,000 to $110,000 per year.

What You'll Do

The Quality Engineer follows all manufacturing, laboratory, and environmental safety procedures, monitoring manufacturing processes and product quality performance while analyzing quality data and trends to identify improvement opportunities. This role investigates product defects, process deviations, and customer complaints, supporting root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions, and participates in process validation, qualification, and product testing activities.

The Quality Engineer supports Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing quality tools such as SPC, PFMEA, control plans, 5 Why analysis, and fishbone diagrams to drive process improvement projects focused on quality, scrap reduction, and operational efficiency. This role builds working relationships across Quality, Operations, Engineering, R&D, and Production teams, ensures quality inspections, testing, reporting, and documentation are completed on schedule, and maintains ownership of assigned projects, investigations, and quality initiatives.

The role also ensures compliance with specifications, internal quality standards, and regulatory requirements, assists with internal audits, external audits, and customer quality assessments, and maintains quality documentation, procedures, work instructions, and records, including support for CAPA processes.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Experience with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and/or ISO 14001 quality systems
  • Experience with root cause analysis and process improvement methodologies
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with SPC, PFMEA, control plans, and statistical analysis tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality reporting systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASQ certification or equivalent quality certification
  • 3 to 5 years of quality engineering experience in battery manufacturing, coatings, plastics, chemical processing, automotive, or industrial manufacturing
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
